My Midyear Reflection: What God Has Taught Me So Far

My Midyear Reflection: What God Has Taught Me So Far
Half the year has already passed.
Sometimes that thought feels exciting. Other times, it reminds me of the goals I haven't reached, the prayers that are still waiting for answers, and the seasons that have stretched me in ways I never expected.
But when I paused to reflect instead of rushing into the second half of the year, I realized something beautiful:
God has been working all along.
Not only in the victories—but especially in the quiet moments, the waiting, the healing, and the ordinary days.
God Doesn't Waste Our Broken Seasons
If you've followed my journey, you know life hasn't always been easy.
I've experienced emotional battles, moments of questioning, difficult relationships, and seasons where I wondered if I would ever truly feel whole again.
There were days when I felt overwhelmed by my emotions and uncertain about my future.
Yet looking back, I can honestly say that God never left me.
Even when I couldn't feel His presence, He was gently carrying me.
Sometimes His greatest work wasn't changing my circumstances—it was changing my heart.
Healing Is Not a Straight Line
One lesson God continues to teach me is that healing rarely happens overnight.
There are good days.
There are difficult days.
There are moments when I feel strong, and moments when old wounds try to resurface.
But healing with Christ isn't about becoming perfect.
It's about learning to return to Him again and again.
Every prayer, every Bible verse, every act of surrender becomes another stitch in the beautiful work He is creating within us.
God Can Use Our Creativity for His Glory
This year, I've found so much joy in creating.
Whether I'm crocheting by hand, writing blog posts, building websites for clients, sharing beauty and self-care, or encouraging fellow moms and content creators, I've realized something:
Creativity is a gift from God.
It isn't "just a hobby."
It can become ministry.
It can encourage someone.
It can provide for a family.
It can remind people that beauty still exists in a broken world.
Every handmade piece and every article I publish reminds me that God delights in creating—and He invites us to create alongside Him.
Motherhood Is Refining Me
Being a mom has taught me patience I didn't know I needed.
It has shown me how deeply God loves His children.
Some days are exhausting.
Some days are messy.
Some days I wonder if I'm doing enough.
Yet every hug, every bedtime prayer, every shared laugh reminds me that motherhood isn't about perfection.
It's about faithfulness.
God entrusted these little lives to me, and I pray every day that they see Christ through the way I love them.
Waiting Doesn't Mean God Has Forgotten You
One of the hardest lessons this year has been learning to wait.
Waiting for doors to open.
Waiting for dreams to unfold.
Waiting for financial breakthroughs.
Waiting for clarity.
Waiting for peace.
Our culture celebrates instant results.
God often develops patient hearts.
I've learned that waiting is not wasted time.
It's preparation.
Sometimes God delays the blessing because He's still preparing us to receive it.
Peace Is Worth Protecting
As I've grown older, I've realized I don't need to attend every argument, prove every point, or carry burdens that God never asked me to carry.
Peace has become one of the greatest treasures in my life.
I've become more intentional about protecting my heart, choosing healthy boundaries, and surrounding myself with things that bring me closer to Christ.
Not everything deserves my energy.
Not every opinion deserves my response.
Sometimes the holiest thing we can do is simply walk away and trust God.
God Provides in Unexpected Ways
Looking back over these months, I can see God's fingerprints everywhere.
Through unexpected opportunities.
Through kind people.
Through answered prayers.
Through closed doors that eventually protected me.
Through quiet mornings with coffee, prayer, and His Word.
His provision isn't always flashy.
Sometimes it's simply having enough strength for today.
And that is more than enough.
Looking Ahead
As the second half of the year begins, I don't want to chase success more than I chase Jesus.
I still have dreams.
I still have goals.
I still want to grow my businesses, continue creating content, support my family, and inspire women to live intentionally.
But above all, I want to remain faithful.
If this year has taught me anything, it's this:
God isn't asking me to have everything figured out.
He's simply asking me to trust Him with the next step.
And that's exactly what I plan to do.
A Prayer for the Rest of the Year
Lord,
Thank You for carrying me through every season this year.
Thank You for Your grace when I failed, Your comfort when I cried, and Your faithfulness when I couldn't see what You were doing.
Help me continue walking closely with You.
Teach me to trust You more than my fears.
Give me wisdom as a mother, strength as a woman, creativity in my work, and peace in my heart.
May everything I create point others back to You.
No matter what the rest of this year holds, remind me that You are already there.
Amen.
"The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you." — Deuteronomy 31:8
What Is a Family System? Simple Examples for Busy Moms
Saturday, January 10
If you’ve ever thought, “Why does everything fall on me?”—you’re not failing as a mom.
You’re just missing a family system.
Most homes don’t break down because of lack of love. They break down because everything depends on one person’s memory, energy, and emotional labor.
This guide explains what a family system is, why it matters, and real-life examples busy moms can actually follow—no complicated charts, no military-level schedules.
What Is a Family System?
A family system is the set of routines, roles, and rules that guide how your household runs—day in and day out.
It answers questions like:
-
Who does what?
-
How are decisions made?
-
How do we manage time, money, and energy?
-
What happens when something goes wrong?
👉 Simply put:
A family system replaces chaos and burnout with clarity and teamwork.
If your home runs only because you remember everything, that’s not a system—that’s survival mode.
Why Busy Moms Need Family Systems
Without systems:
-
You become the household manager
-
You repeat yourself constantly
-
You feel resentful but guilty for feeling that way
-
Kids depend on reminders instead of responsibility
With systems:
-
Tasks are predictable
-
Kids know what’s expected
-
Partners share ownership
-
Your mental load gets lighter
Systems don’t make homes cold—they make them peaceful.
Family System vs. Routine: What’s the Difference?
A routine is what happens.
A system is who owns it and how it continues.
Example:
-
Routine: Cleaning on Saturdays
-
System: Everyone has assigned cleaning roles every Saturday without reminders
Routines fail when no one owns them.
Systems work because responsibility is shared.
Simple Family System Examples for Busy Moms
You don’t need to systematize everything. Start with the areas causing the most stress.
1️⃣ Morning System (Not Just a Routine)
Without a system:
You wake everyone up, remind them to get dressed, prepare food, and rush everyone out.
With a system:
-
Kids know their morning checklist
-
Clothes are prepared the night before
-
Breakfast options are decided weekly
-
Everyone has a role (even small ones)
📌 Result: Less shouting, less rushing, calmer mornings.
2️⃣ Chores System (Age-Appropriate Ownership)
Without a system:
You clean. Others “help” when asked.
With a system:
-
Each family member owns specific tasks
-
Tasks are written and visible
-
No constant reminding
Example:
-
Child A: dishes after dinner
-
Child B: sweep floor
-
Parent: cooking
-
Other parent: bedtime routine
📌 Result: Less resentment, more cooperation.
3️⃣ Meal Planning System
Without a system:
Daily “What are we eating?” stress.
With a system:
-
Weekly meal plan
-
Fixed grocery day
-
Simple rotation of meals
-
Budget aligned with food plan
📌 Result: Saved money, fewer food decisions, less burnout.
4️⃣ Family Budgeting System
Without a system:
Money worries stay in your head.
With a system:
-
Monthly budget check-in
-
Shared family goals (travel, savings)
-
Clear spending limits
-
Kids understand basic money choices
📌 Result: Less financial stress, more teamwork.
5️⃣ Weekly Family Meeting System
Without a system:
Problems explode when emotions are high.
With a system:
-
Short weekly check-in
-
Review schedules
-
Assign responsibilities
-
Talk about money and plans
-
Encourage each other
📌 Result: Fewer arguments, better communication.
What a Family System Is NOT
Let’s clear this up.
A family system is NOT:
-
Being strict or controlling
-
Making your home feel like an office
-
Removing flexibility or fun
-
Expecting perfection
A good system creates freedom, not pressure.
How to Start Your First Family System (Without Overwhelm)
Start with one system only.
Ask yourself:
-
What drains me the most right now?
-
Is it meals, money, chores, or time?
Then:
-
Write down current problems
-
Assign clear ownership
-
Keep it simple
-
Review after 2–4 weeks
Progress > perfection.
Final Encouragement for Moms
You were never meant to carry your family alone.
Creating a family system doesn’t mean you love your family less—it means you love them wisely, sustainably, and with peace.
And yes—you deserve that peace too.
How I Stay Energized as a Work-From-Home Mom Without Burning Out
Tuesday, December 30
Burnout doesn’t always look like breaking down.
Sometimes it looks like waking up tired every day, pushing through tasks, and telling yourself this is just part of being a mom.
For a long time, that was me.
I was doing meaningful work—writing, creating, caring for my family—but my body felt constantly drained. Not sick. Just… depleted. And no amount of coffee fixed it.
Why Moms Feel Tired All the Time
Motherhood carries a mental load that doesn’t clock out. We manage schedules, emotions, meals, finances, and expectations—often while trying to build something of our own.
Add skipped meals, dehydration, and stress, and it’s no wonder so many moms feel exhausted even when they “rest.”
My Gentle Wellness Rhythm (No Hustle Required)
I stopped chasing productivity hacks and focused on consistency instead.
Here’s what my day looks like now:
-
Morning prayer and quiet time
-
Water before coffee
-
Light movement or stretching
-
Simple, plant-based nutrition support
One thing I personally include in my routine is a botanical drink called Intra. I don’t treat it as a miracle solution—just gentle nutritional support on days my body needs extra help.
Why I Personally Chose Botanical Support
I wanted something:
-
Easy to prepare
-
Gentle on my stomach
-
Supportive during long work-from-home days
Intra fits naturally into my lifestyle, especially when I’m writing, crocheting, or working on nanaykikay.com.
Wellness That Supports Creativity
When my body feels supported, I create better.
I’m more patient.
I finish projects.
I don’t feel resentful toward my work or my home.
That matters more to me than “doing more.”

How I’m Preparing for a Restored & Fruitful Year as a Mom
This year, I’m not rushing.
I’m not chasing unrealistic goals or trying to “bounce back” to who I used to be.
Instead, I’m preparing my heart, home, and habits for a restored and fruitful year—one that honors God, nurtures my children, and cares for the woman I’m becoming.
1. Choosing Restoration Over Perfection
For so long, I thought being a good mom meant doing everything right—having the cleanest home, the most productive schedule, and the strongest mindset. But restoration isn’t about perfection. It’s about healing what’s been stretched, tired, or neglected.
This year, I’m allowing myself to rest without guilt.
To pause.
To breathe.
“He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness for His name’s sake.” — Psalm 23:3
God doesn’t ask me to strive endlessly—He invites me to be restored.
2. Simplifying My Daily Rhythms
Instead of overwhelming routines, I’m focusing on gentle, sustainable rhythms:
-
Morning prayer before touching my phone
-
Nourishing my body with simple wellness habits
-
Creating pockets of quiet, even in a noisy home
As a mom, especially in a full household, peace doesn’t come from control—it comes from intentional simplicity.
3. Pouring Into My Spiritual Life First
I’ve learned that when my spiritual cup is empty, everything else feels heavy. This year, I’m prioritizing:
-
Daily Scripture (even if it’s just one verse)
-
Honest prayers instead of polished ones
-
Trusting God with my motherhood journey
Fruitfulness doesn’t come from doing more—it comes from staying connected to the Vine.
“Those who remain in Me, and I in them, will produce much fruit.” — John 15:5
4. Caring for My Body as an Act of Stewardship
I’m no longer treating self-care as a reward. It’s a responsibility.
This year, I’m choosing:
-
Gentle movement that honors my season
-
Nutrition that supports my energy as a mom
-
Listening to my body instead of ignoring it
A restored mom is better equipped to love, serve, and show up fully.
5. Creating With Purpose, Not Pressure
Whether it’s blogging, crafting, or serving others online, I’m stepping into creation with clarity and calling, not comparison.
I’m asking:
-
Does this glorify God?
-
Does this align with my values as a mom?
-
Does this bring peace or pressure?
Fruitfulness flows naturally when we create from alignment, not exhaustion.
6. Extending Grace—to Myself and Others
Motherhood humbles you. This year, I’m releasing:
-
Harsh self-talk
-
Unrealistic expectations
-
Comparison with other moms
Grace isn’t weakness—it’s strength wrapped in compassion.
A Gentle Intention for the Year
My prayer isn’t for a perfect year.
It’s for a present one.
A year where I’m restored in spirit, fruitful in love, and anchored in faith—one day, one prayer, one small obedient step at a time.
If you’re a mom entering a new season too, may this be your reminder:
You don’t have to do more to be fruitful.
You simply need to remain rooted.

Mom's Night Out? Here's How to Rock Formal Evening Wear Effortlessly
Tuesday, October 21
Between school runs, grocery shopping, and that never-ending to-do list, most moms rarely get the chance to dress up just for themselves. But when that special night out finally comes—whether it's a wedding, anniversary dinner, or long-awaited girls' night—it's your moment to shine!
If you've been wondering how to look effortlessly elegant in formal evening wear, you're not alone. Many moms struggle with finding the perfect balance between sophisticated style and real-life comfort. The good news? Looking red-carpet ready doesn't have to mean hours of preparation or an overwhelming wardrobe overhaul.
Why Formal Evening Wear Isn't Just for Red Carpets
Let's be honest: the words "formal evening wear" can sound intimidating. But modern formalwear isn't about dramatic ball gowns or over-the-top sequins anymore. Today's elegant dresses prioritize comfort meets class—think soft satin, flowing silhouettes, and flattering cuts designed for real women with real lives.
An elegant cocktail dress can take you anywhere—from a fancy restaurant in BGC to your best friend's milestone celebration. You don't need to wait for a red carpet moment to feel like a star. The right dress brings that effortless glamour to your wardrobe, no matter the occasion.

Finding Your Perfect Style
When shopping for formal evening wear, consider these factors that matter most to busy mamas:
Climate-Friendly Fabrics
In our tropical weather, breathable materials are essential. Look for lightweight satin, chiffon, or modern blends that keep you cool even during outdoor evening events.
Versatile Designs
Choose dresses that work for multiple occasions—weddings, corporate events, family celebrations, or even church gatherings. A timeless A-line or wrap dress in a rich jewel tone can be your go-to for years.
Flattering Cuts
Every body is beautiful, and the right silhouette enhances your natural shape. Empire waists, off-the-shoulder necklines, and flowing midi-lengths are universally flattering and photograph beautifully.

Style Tips: Look Elegant Without Trying Too Hard
You don't need a celebrity stylist to look amazing. A few simple tricks can elevate any outfit:
Keep it simple with accessories. If your dress has embellishments or bold colors, pair it with delicate jewelry—think simple pearl earrings or a dainty bracelet.
Embrace color confidently. Don't shy away from vibrant hues like emerald, burgundy, or champagne. These shades flatter every skin tone and add that wow factor.
Focus on fit. A well-fitted dress in quality fabric always looks more expensive than it is. Consider having pieces tailored for that custom look.
Confidence is your best accessory. When you feel good in what you're wearing, that energy radiates. Stand tall, smile, and own your look.
Special Occasion Dressing: Mother of the Bride Edition
For moms preparing for their child's wedding, choosing the perfect dress can feel overwhelming. Modern mother of the bride dresses have evolved far beyond stiff fabrics and boring colors. Today's options are chic, timeless, and actually comfortable enough to dance in all night.
Consider soft pastels for morning ceremonies or rich jewel tones for evening celebrations. The key is finding something that feels special yet comfortable—you'll be hugging guests, posing for photos, and celebrating for hours.
Pro tip: Choose a dress you'll genuinely want to wear again. The best investment pieces work for future events like anniversaries, milestone birthdays, or other family celebrations.

Making Smart Shopping Choices
We're experts at stretching our budget while still looking fabulous. Here's how to shop smart for formal wear:
Invest in classics. Timeless styles never go out of fashion and offer better value over time.
Shop off-season. You'll often find better deals when shopping ahead for events.
Consider online options. Many retailers offer quality formal wear with detailed size guides and return policies.
Think cost-per-wear. A versatile dress that works for multiple occasions is worth more than a one-time statement piece.
Your Moment to Shine
Being a mom doesn't mean leaving glamour behind—it just means redefining it on your own terms. Those special occasions aren't just about showing up; they're opportunities to celebrate yourself, reconnect with your confidence, and remind everyone (including yourself) that motherhood and elegance go hand in hand.
Whether you're attending a wedding, hosting a family celebration, or finally having that well-deserved Mom's Night Out with your friends, you deserve to feel beautiful. The right dress isn't just about looking good—it's about reclaiming that part of yourself that sometimes gets lost in the daily hustle of motherhood.
So go ahead: treat yourself to a little sparkle, step out in that elegant dress, and show the world that style has no age limit. After all, the best accessory any mom can wear is her confidence—and a dress that makes her feel absolutely unstoppable.

How to Raise Teens as a First-Time Teenage Mom
Thursday, July 24
Becoming a mother as a teenager is life-changing—and raising a teenager when you’re still young yourself? That’s a whole different kind of journey. As a first-time teenage mom, you're navigating two roads at once: figuring out your own life while helping shape someone else's. It's not easy, but it’s deeply meaningful, and yes—you can thrive while raising a teen.
Here at Nanay Kikay, I want to speak from experience and encouragement. If you’re a young mom like me raising teens, this post is for you. Whether you're feeling unsure, overwhelmed, or even discouraged, know that you’re not alone.
1. Build a Relationship Before Rules
Teenagers don’t respond well to control, but they do respond to connection. The earlier you build a strong, respectful relationship with your child, the easier it becomes to guide them as they grow.
Spend time with them. Ask about their interests. Watch their favorite shows or play their games with them. Make memories not just as a parent, but as someone they can trust.
📝 Related post: Why Intentional Bonding Time Matters as a Mom
2. Parent With Purpose, Not Perfection
As teenage moms, we often feel like we have something to prove. The world already has opinions about us—so we work twice as hard, right? But let me remind you: You don’t have to be perfect.
You just have to be present.
Set clear rules, yes—but also be flexible. Create routines, but allow grace for when things fall apart. Use your story to guide, not to shame. Our imperfections can teach our children valuable life lessons.
3. Be Open to Learning (and Unlearning)
There is no one-size-fits-all manual for parenting, especially when you’re young. Be willing to learn, and also be brave enough to unlearn what doesn’t work. Social media, books, podcasts, and mom communities can be a goldmine of encouragement and wisdom.
Also, listen to your teen. Sometimes, they’ll teach you more than any parenting book ever could.
📝 Check out: My Favorite Parenting Reads and Podcasts
4. Communicate, Don’t Lecture
Teenagers are full of emotions and thoughts they often can’t express. That’s why instead of lectures, they need conversations.
Ask open-ended questions like:
-
“How are you really feeling today?”
-
“What do you think about what happened at school?”
-
“What’s something I could do better as your mom?”
These conversations, especially when done during car rides or quiet moments, build emotional safety.
5. Lead with Love, Even When It’s Hard
Sometimes, you’ll be met with rolled eyes, slammed doors, or silence. Don’t take it personally. Teens are figuring themselves out—just like we were.
In those hard moments, remind yourself: Your love is their anchor. Hug them even when they don’t ask. Say “I’m proud of you” even after a disagreement. Speak life over them even when they mess up.
6. Grow Spiritually Together
If you’re a faith-filled mom, involve your teen in your spiritual journey. Pray together when you can. Talk about values that matter. Let them see your faith in action—not just on Sundays, but in how you live, love, and forgive.

7. Take Care of You, Too
Burnout is real. As a teenage mom, you might still be studying, working, or chasing personal dreams—and that’s okay! Don't forget to take care of your heart, too.
Even 10 minutes of self-care makes a difference. Journal, pray, stretch, read, do your skincare—whatever refuels you.

8. Celebrate Progress, Not Just Milestones
Maybe your teen finally opened up to you. Maybe you stayed calm during a stressful argument. Maybe you both laughed after a long day.
Celebrate those moments. That’s progress. That’s parenting.
Raising teens is never easy, but raising them as a young mom can be a powerful and redemptive experience. You are not behind. You are not “less than.” In fact, you have something special—empathy, resilience, and strength beyond your years.
Your story matters. Your child is lucky to have you. And every time you choose love, grace, and growth—you are planting seeds of a beautiful future.
Finding Peace as a Wife Living with In-Laws
Friday, July 18
When you’re a wife, a mom to a busy toddler, the household cook, and you're living under the same roof as your in-laws—it’s a lot.
It’s a beautiful kind of hard. Some days feel like blessings wrapped in chaos. Other days feel like you’re tiptoeing between keeping the peace and keeping yourself from falling apart.
I’m sharing this not just as a blogger or mom, but as a woman living this reality daily. If you're navigating married life while raising little ones in a shared home, know this: you are not alone. It is possible to protect your peace, honor your role, and care for your family and yourself at the same time—with grace and wisdom.
In this post, I want to share some gentle routines, faith-based encouragement, and practical tips that have helped me breathe easier, set boundaries lovingly, and show up as the wife and mom God is calling me to be—even in a full household.
1. Pray for Wisdom and a Gentle Spirit Daily
Before anything else, start your day with prayer. Ask God for discernment, peace, and grace in your words and actions. Living with in-laws can test your patience, but remember:
“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.” – Proverbs 15:1
2. Keep Communication Open with Your Husband
Make sure you and your husband are on the same team. Talk regularly about how you’re feeling—not to complain, but to share your emotional load. Let him know if something is hard for you, and try to find small ways he can support you emotionally or practically.
Tip: Avoid venting about his family to him when tensions are high. Choose a calm moment and speak from your heart.
3. Create Routines that Protect Your Peace
With a 2-year-old and cooking responsibilities, your time and energy are stretched. Build a routine that allows you and your child to have consistent rest, bonding time, and alone time—even if it’s just 20 quiet minutes a day.
If possible:
-
Have morning play/devotion time with your baby
-
Prepare meals in batches to save energy
-
Plan a few moments each day just for YOU—even just sipping coffee while your baby naps
4. Respect Their Space While Maintaining Yours
In a shared home, respect is key. But so is healthy emotional space. Here’s how:
-
Be kind and polite, but don’t feel obligated to over-explain your parenting or household choices unless asked
-
Respect their house rules, but calmly set boundaries when needed (e.g. baby’s nap time, parenting decisions)
-
Choose your battles—every comment doesn’t need a reaction
5. Ask for Help—You Don’t Have to Do It All Alone
If you’re doing all the cooking and child-rearing, it’s okay to ask for help—from your husband, from a relative, or even asking someone to watch the baby for 15 minutes so you can take a bath in peace.
You don’t have to be a superhero. Jesus Himself took time to rest.
6. Practice Gratitude, But Don’t Guilt Yourself
You might feel like you “should be grateful” for having a place to stay or family around—but that doesn’t mean your struggles aren’t valid. Gratitude and frustration can exist in the same heart.
Write down 3 things you’re thankful for each day—and also name one thing you need to surrender to God.
7. Build Your Identity Beyond the Home
You are more than a cook, more than a mom, more than a wife. Continue nurturing your passions—your blog, crochet, your dreams. These things matter. They keep your spirit alive.
8. Seek Support from Other Women
You are not alone. Many women live with in-laws, raise babies, and try to keep the peace while building a life. Talk to friends, join a mom group, or message someone you trust.
Sometimes, just saying “this is hard” to someone who understands is enough to lighten the load.
Trust God’s Timing and Direction
This season may not be forever. Whether it’s temporary or long-term, God can work through it.
“The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.” – Exodus 14:14
